The 2016 – 2017 school year marks the first year that West has fielded two robotics teams, the Tech Dogs and Team Lockjaw, for the FIRST Technical Challenge. The students in the West Middle School Robotics Club have a strong desire to learn more about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) concepts and to gain experience in teamwork, public speaking, project planning and marketing. We believe that the skills developed in researching, designing and building the robots to compete in this year’s competition will impact not only our students’ school careers but could also provide them with a foundation for a future career.
As first year teams, we are beginning without the resources a more established team has at its disposal. Each team of 10 students costs about $4,000 to purchase the robotics kit; tools and other necessary supplies and to compete in at least one competition. The West Middle School Robotics Club is seeking to raise $8,000 to support the Tech Dogs and Team Lockjaw.
We hope you will consider helping our teams be a success.
